Next up, came the Boys Lacrosse, Girls Lacrosse, and Girls Teams.  All three teams took home their respective Conference Championships on Thursday, May 18.  The Girls Tennis Team started off the day with a 5-0 sweep of Albemarle High School, on the Patriots home court.  The girls head into this week’s Region 5A North Championships as the #1 seed out of Conference 16.

Just a day before the team championship, Allison Wandling took home the Conference 16 Singles Championship without dropping a set through the tournament.  She defeated he counterpart from Patrick Henry-Roanoke in straight sets in the finals.  That win pushed the girls to obtain the above mentioned team championship.

The Girls Lacrosse team found championship glory next as they took to the hot turf of Randolph-Macon College.  The girls’ defeated the Deep Run Wildcats 7-6 and brought Atlee their first trophy in girls lacrosse as a VHSL member.

The weather cooled a bit in the evening but the Atlee hot streak continued, as the Boys Lacrosse Team won their 2nd consecutive Conference championship over Freeman, this year by a score of 9-7.  Both wins for the lacrosse team sent them into Regionals, where they will host a doubleheader, most likely on Tuesday, May 30th.

The championship run continued into Friday night, as the Softball team defended their Conference 16 title with another championship after defeating Albemarle High School 9-0.  The girls were led by the pitching of Peyton St. George, who threw a perfect game in the finals.  The girls head into this week’s Region 5A North championship as the #1 seed from Conference 16.  Their path to a 3rd straight VHSL 5A State Championship continues.

The week of success came to end with one more championship, as the doubles team of Jessica Wills and Allison Wandling defeated their teammates Shelby Morton and Katie Sarnowski in an all-Atlee doubles final.  The win marked a complete sweep of Atlee Championships in the Girls Tennis Tournament (team, singles, and doubles).

In addition to the above mentioned titles, the Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, and Baseball teams all secured Region 5A North tournament berths.

Needless to say, it was a great week for Atlee athletics.  The student athletes battled through weather, tough opponents, and school-testing to represent themselves and the school to the fullest.
