It was a special night for Atlee HIgh School Athletics at the 26th Annual RTD/SportsBackers Scholar-Athlete Award Dinner.
The annual event is a great evening in which to honor Richmond’s top student-athletes. Since its start in 1992, Sports Backers and the Richmond Times-Dispatch have partnered to recognize the accomplishments of the region’s finest student-athletes, awarding over $968,000 in college scholarships. On June 5, 2017, twenty student-athletes, along with the Williams Mullen High School Teams of the Year and the HCA Virginia Sports Medicine Comeback Athletes of the Year, will be recognized, and $70,000 in scholarships will be awarded. We hope that you will join us in celebrating the 26th annual Richmond Times-Dispatch/Sports Backers Scholar-Athlete program and help us create a lasting legacy for future Richmond natives who will go on to change the world, just as those before them are doing today. All donations and proceeds from the event will be used to support the Sports Backers Scholarship Fund.
Atlee Senior, Emily Jacob, was named the HCA Female Comeback Athlete of the Year. An award which garners a $1,500 scholarship. Emily, as soccer and basketball standout, will attend James Madison University in the fall.
The Atlee Softball team was named a finalist for the Williams Mullen Team of the Year (an award in which they won in 2016)
Alyse Armentrout was named the 2017 RTD/SportsBackers Female Scholar Athlete of the Year. An award which earned Alyse a $7,500 scholarship. Alyse, also a soccer and basketball standout, will attend the University of Virginia in the fall.
